Blog 1: Claire C.

Hi there, My name is Claire! I am from Lavonia, Georgia, which is a tiny town. I doubt you have heard of it, but there I grew up around farms, a small community, and tons of outdoor activities. Up until two years ago, I remember going mudding on four-wheelers, going out on the boat with my family, driving thirty-plus minutes to the closest mall, and saying goodbye to family so I could go off to college all the way to Alaska. Why Alaska? Over the past three years, my dad has been coming and going back and forth from Georgia to Alaska for his job here, and as a dad's girl I obviously had to tag along.

I have lived in Alaska for two years, and so far, I love it. Throughout my two years here in Alaska, I have two dogs- which are polar opposites, the most healthiest relationships with my boyfriend and dad, as well as well as a fantastic Church family and my friend group by my side. Once I came up here to Alaska, I realized I wanted to help make a change in the world, even if it is the smallest. Mainly because growing up in a small town- for me at least, it was not diverse at all and everyone was the same. But here in Alaska, I attend UAA and UAF, seeking my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in special needs.

Along with college, I also have two jobs! One is in retail, and my other is with a non-profit- Hope Community Resources. My overall goal is to become an elementary school teacher, and once I have that checked off, I plan on returning to college to complete my degree in special education.

I find this picture to be most appealing to me because these
two boys are like my babies and my besties. (Also, I'm sure
you can tell which one loves car rides more. Lol)

When it comes to music, I think I and music have a great relationship. I have a hard time sitting in a silent room and even dislike eating without background noise. I just find that when I play some music in the background while cooking, folding clothes, and even doing math homework, it helps me to focus and allows me to forget about my thoughts for a while. I mostly like to listen to music,
but occasionally, I sing music at my Church.  Luckily, I do have a little bit of background when it comes to music; when I was in Middle School, I joined the Choir and did that for about 3 years. Also, with me singing occasionally at my Church, it gives me a refresher of notes and the chorus.
But my favorite music right now is mostly country, Christian, and those trendy songs that come out on TikTok. I also listen to Disney music a lot! Not only because I love Disney movies but also because of the little girl I work with. I do enjoy hearing music when I'm eating at a restaurant or just going out, because I know that music can uplift and it always seems to make my day better. But one thing I have not done yet when it comes to music is going to a concert! Why, I honestly have no clue; nine times out of ten, I probably talk myself out of it because of the many people that will be there.
The one song I have recently enjoyed is "Ain't No Love In Oklahoma" by Luke Combs. After I saw the movie Twister, I immediately downloaded it, and ever since then, I have heard it quite often. But the song I am going to link below is "Am I Okay?", by Megan Moroney. I heard this on TikTok, and it has been repeated in my car. "Am I Okay" Music

  1. What's the latest song that is catching your ear on TikTok? I don't do TikTok, I don't know where I'd find the time. Cute fur babies!

  2. I came up from Jacksonville, Florida, but have a similar experience of driving 30+ minutes to the mall and going out on the boat with my family since we lived near the navy base (my dad is now retired) and my grandparents have a boat, and we go out a lot when I visit in the summer.
